Health Concerns

Cancer is a disease caused by uncontrolled division of cells in various parts of the body. It is often asymptomatic in its early stage, when the disease is most curable. For this reason, it is important to screen for cancer periodically, according to the individual risk factors. Some prevalent types of cancer are:

  • Colorectal

  • Breast (women)

  • Cervical & Ovarian (women)

  • Liver

  • Lung

  • Prostate (men)

What can be done?

It is important to know your risk factors, such as age, gender, living and working environments, genetics and family history, lifestyle and existing medical concerns.

Imaging Tests, such as x-rays, ultrasound, CT and MRI can be useful in detecting cancers in the breast, lungs, prostate, and abdominal / pelvic organs.

Tumour markers blood test, may detect some forms of cancer, including liver, lung and colon among others. PAP Smear and blood HPV tests are useful in screening for cancer of the cervix.

To screen for or diagnose colorectal cancer, colonoscopy is performed to examine the inner lining of the colon and rectum, which make up the large intestine.
