Ultrasound Scan

What is an Ultrasound Scan?

Ultrasound uses a device, called a probe, to produce sound waves and to record the resultant echos reflected from our internal organs or blood vessels as images.  This allows us to visualise parts of our body without the use of radiation.

Important structures that can be visualised include our liver, kidneys, thyroid gland, breasts, ovaries and prostate glands.  It is a relatively simple and quick procedure.

Why do you need an Ultrasound scan in Singapore?

Ultrasounds allow your doctor to have a quick view of your internal organs as part of a routine health check or if you feel discomfort without any obvious cause.  As it is a simple, non-invasive and relatively low-cost procedure, it helps your doctor decide if treatment or more detailed scans are required.

What to expect during an Ultrasound scan in Singapore?

  • Scans for our gastro-intestinal tract, i.e.,liver and gallbladder require 4-6 hrs fasting to enable a clear view.

  • Scans of our pelvic region, i.e (uterus, ovaries, bladder), require a full bladder for better visualization. Usually, you will be asked to drink 6 glasses of water and not empty the bladder until the examination is complete.

  • Do let the clinic know if you have diabetes or cannot drink too much water for medical reasons.
